SDUK provide veterans from the Armed Forces and Emergency Services suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder the benefit of specially trained psychiatric assistance dogs.
Our dogs, from rescue, are carefully selected to help the Veterans. We train dogs to the highest standard, being a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI).
Once a rescue dog has completed their basic training and assessment, the Veteran will be training their own partnered dog for a period of 9 – 12 months under the guidance of professional dog trainers. This journey greatly benefits both the Veteran and the dog.
We welcome applications from men and women of the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, Coastguard (MCA) and RNLI.
As an organisation we actively wish to raise the awareness of the mental health danger of PTSD to our brave men and women on the front line, be it abroad or at home; in the military or emergency services.
